Franklin's Big Hockey Game: Sticker Activity Book, A
Published in Paperback by Scholastic (October, 2002)
Average review score:

terrific activity book for older preschoolersIt's not that easy to find appropriate and interesting sticker/activity books for preschoolers, but this one is terrific. As we read the story of Franklin's big hockey game, there are a number of fun puzzles to solve, including hidden object, coloring, word search, matching, word scramble, connect-the-dot and a maze. There's even a recipe for hot chocolate, a lesson in how to draw Franklin and an answer page. There are 30 stickers that really are reusable when placed on the glossy scenes of Franklin's bedroom, the ice pond or the party hall.
While the word search and word scramble may be a little old for the target audience, this activity book is one of the best I've seen.

When he tells his parents, he finds out that if he's going to have it at the amusement park they can only afford to let him take one friend. Faced with this option, Franklin comes up with a creative solution so he can celebrate his birthday with all his friends and have just as much fun as if they went to an amusement park.

Franklin's Christmas Gift
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 1999)
Average review score:

Franklin's Christmas GiftAs a mother of three small children, I love all of the Franklin series books. This book was particularly poignant at this time of year when children get focussed on the recieving part of their holidays. It lead us into a discussion about giving and how that can feel just as wonderful as getting. After that, my children were actually eager to participate in donating toys to our local church.

Average review score:

Franklin's DaughtersThis is a book for everybody. The people featured in the short biographies are outstanding human beings who happened to be women, some white, some African American, Native American. Their accomplishments are stunning. Their underlying common ground is the formidable road they had to take to accomplish their destiny, easier for men than women. University of Pennsylvania can be proud of these "daughters" and the role it played in their education. Be prepared, their disciplines are varied and exciting. The author's style is lively, captivating.
This book is an inspiration for all.

Franklin's Neighborhood

Average review score:

Nice thought to give to 5 and 6 year olds..My Kindergartners and I read your book today. What a nice thought. We are learning about our world this month to intergrate the thoughts of why people would consider moving to a new world(the Pilgrims) so we are starting out with the thought of what is a neighborhood? and then proceeding to families and friends--so you started it for us. Thanks.

Franklin's Pet Problem (Franklin Board Book, 1)
Published in Hardcover by Scholastic (June, 2000)
Average review score:

Great for little hands!I was excited to find a Franklin book in a board book. My nephew is a big fan, but only one, so it's great to have found a board book. The story is really cute. Franklin wants a pet because he only has a fake one. He takes suggestions from friends and family, but finally makes the decision himself. The book included most of Franklin's closest buddies, which the little fans will love. Each flap added to the suspense of which friend he's going to ask, and what pet they would suggest. It was fun making all of the animal noises as we read each new suggestion. I'm glad Franklin made his own mind up in the end! Very cute!

The Franklin's Prologue and Tale
Published in Paperback by Cambridge University Press (January, 2000)
Average review score:

Marriage, adultery and promises - Chaucer was ahead of his tWho is the narrator? By the end of the tale i was confused if Chaucer, The Franklin or one of his characters was speaking to me! Chaucer, the author of Canterbury Tales introdues the Franlin who now has to tell his tale to the rest of a pilgrimage on their way to Canterbury. The franklin who is just below the nobility in rank spells out an exquisite teale in which Arveragus marries Dorigen and promises never to be her master or force her to do anything unwillfully. Arveragus soon departs the scene as he goes to fight abroad and along comes Aurelius who declares his true love for Dorigen. Dorigen is upset and is in two minds what to do so she casts Aureilus away by setting him an impossible task of removing all the rocks in the sea to win her love. Aurelius nearly dies but with help from his brother and a magician an illusion is created whereby all the rocks disappear. Dorigen is now in trouble as Arveragus returns and she cannot possibly confess to love both men at the same time. She tells Arveragus of the situation who forces her to live with Aurelius. Dorigen thinks about committing suicide but then decides to approach Aurelius who forgives her and tells her to live with her husband. Aurelius now has no money to pay the magician for his illusion but all ends well as the magician lets him off. Who is the most kindes of them all? It is difficult to suggest who but this tale is so enthralling that you have to read it to believe it!

Franklin's School Play
Published in Paperback by Scholastic (January, 1996)
Average review score:

Franklin is cute and entertainingFranklin's School Play is a cute and entertaining book. I enjoyed it very much. It is about a young turtle named Franklin who has a main role in his school's Christmas play, The Nutcracker. The day before the the opening night, Franklin gets so nervous that he can't speak. But, fortunately, he later gains his confidence and does great in the main performance. I think the book teaches kids that it's ok to be afraid sometimes, and that one can succeed if he or she works hard. It is also a great story to put a person in the Christmas mood.
